What drew me to this run in particular was that it was presented by Cameron Helps, a fantastic organization that believes in physical health to help mental health. Knowing that this was where the money would go towards and that I was diagnosed with depression last year made it an easy decision and within moments of reading up on the race I was registered.
The day after I was registered to run I got an email from Runner's Mark that due to low pre-event registration they had to change the scope of the event. They said they would still have water stations and the route marking, but they wouldn't have traffic control across one of the streets. Additionally, they ended up waiving the registration fee to encourage more runners to come out and they would offer their technical running shirts to those that wished to make a donation. It was unfortunate that they had to change the scope of the event, but I was glad to hear that the event was still on.
For starters from what I could see numerous people that came out for this run were at the Team Unbreakable Father's Day 5K Run/Walk and have been out to their events in the past. It seemed like a close knit community of people that all came out to have fun and support a great cause.
The course was through Centennial Park so there was some nice scenery and it wasn't too bad of a course to run, or at least that't what I thought until I approached the water station. Coming up the 2.5k point I was running down a fairly steep hill and couldn't have been more excited to get my water, until I realized I had to run back up that same hill. What was nice about running out 2.5k and running back the same 2.5k was knowing where I stood, which pushed me to make it to the end even quicker.
These are my stats from the run. Couldn't be happier with my time, especially since it was only my second race - my first with a finishing medal!
