A group of girls at work wanted to head to Darien Lake for Color Me Rad and invited me along. I just started running about a month before the race date, but I figured what could go wrong - it's all about fun, and isn't timed... I'm in! We opted to stay for the weekend since there was a great package with Darien Lake, so instead of a day trip it ended up being a Girls Weekend!
I was really excited to have this race be my first - no pressure, just carefree fun!!!
For starters race packet pick-up was somewhat far from the actual race location if you were picking up the day before the race, but luckily for us Canadians coming into Buffalo it was on our way to Darien Lake. The race kit included some pretty awesome swag if I do say so myself, check it out!
Whats awesome about this race is that teams of runners tend to wear matching outfits that look spectacular, and the vibe of the crowd is amazing.

Now as for the race itself, it was in support of the Special Olympics New York and it was a blast! I can definitely see myself doing this race in the years to come, especially because of how great the environment was. There was music playing, a fantastic MC, and of course colour flying EVERYWHERE!
I ran in the first wave of runners that started at 0900 that morning.
The course itself was awkward to run at the beginning since we were running on gravel and grass and there was no real designated path until we got to the rear parking lot. After that we ran around the park and up the road past the hotel and cabins that you're able to rent out, through the RV park and the race ended off close to where the starting line was.
There were at least 3 colour-bomb stations and 2 stations where we got hosed with coloured water. I guess the only downside was that by the time the final wave headed out to run the race volunteers ran out to colour to make runners rad with. Thankfully we went first, however this is definitely a mental note I'm going to hang on to for next time.
For the record my time was somewhere around 37 minutes according to my Nike Fuel Band. Not too shabby for the girl that was at 43 minutes the month before.
Overall, had a great time with a great group of ladies... I'll be back, probably in Toronto next time, but I'll be there.
